Choose the compound before the geometry
70 Shore A for most static seals; 40–60 A for low-force sealing; 80–90 A to resist extrusion; call out by ASTM D2000 line

- Hardness, temperature range and fluid resistance change squeeze, gap and wall rules.
- If you ignore it
- Seals swell in the working fluid, take a set at temperature, or are too stiff to close at the available clamp force.
