Durometer: Durometer is a measure of hardness for rubber and plastics, read on Shore scales with an indenter gauge. Shore A covers soft elastomers, with most seals and gaskets between 40A and 80A; Shore D covers harder materials. Durometer is typically specified with a tolerance of ±5 points.
Compression set: Compression set is the permanent deformation left in a rubber part after it is held compressed for a set time and temperature, expressed as a percentage of the original deflection. Lower is better for seals and gaskets. It is typically tested per ASTM D395 Method B.
