FN-0205 is an MPIF Standard 35 powder metal nickel steel: iron with 1–3% nickel, up to 2.5% copper and 0.3–0.6% carbon. As sintered at 6.9 g/cm³, FN-0205-25 runs about 50 ksi (340 MPa) tensile with better ductility and impact energy than FC-0208. Heat-treated grades reach 105 ksi (720 MPa) minimum tensile and above, a common choice for hardened PM gears.

FC-0208 is the lower-cost default for as-sintered strength. FN-0205 has lower as-sintered strength but better ductility and toughness, and it responds well to heat treatment. Pick FN-0205 for hardened gears and parts that see shock loads.
Yes. Quench and temper gives apparent hardness of about HRC 23–40 and minimum tensile strengths from 80 to 180 ksi (550–1,240 MPa) depending on density and grade. Tempering is typically around 400 °F (205 °C).
Higher density raises strength, fatigue life and cost. Single-press parts typically run 6.6–7.1 g/cm³. Double pressing, warm compaction or special processes push past 7.2 g/cm³ for demanding gears.
