1000D Cordura is a heavy-duty woven fabric made from 1000 denier air-textured nylon 6,6 yarn, usually with a polyurethane back coating for water resistance. It weighs about 10–12 oz/yd² (340–400 g/m²) and has very high abrasion and tear resistance for its weight. It is the standard for tool bags, tactical gear, equipment cases and protective covers.

Denier is the mass in grams of 9,000 meters of yarn. 1000D yarn is heavier and thicker than 500D, which makes a heavier fabric with more abrasion resistance. Denier describes yarn, not fabric weight, so compare oz/yd² too.
500D weighs about 6–8 oz/yd², is more flexible, and is still very abrasion resistant; it is the common choice for packs and apparel. 1000D is for bags and cases that take the hardest wear.
The coated fabric resists water; a finished product is only waterproof if seams are taped, welded or sealed. For truly waterproof bags, TPU-laminated fabric with welded seams is the better call.
1000D Cordura nylon is far more abrasion resistant and stronger for its weight. 600D polyester costs much less, holds color better in UV and absorbs less water. Use polyester for promotional and light-duty bags, Cordura for gear that gets abused.
