600D polyester is a woven fabric made from 600 denier polyester yarn, usually in an oxford weave with a polyurethane or PVC back coating. It weighs about 6–9 oz/yd² (200–300 g/m²) depending on coating, resists UV and water better than nylon, and costs far less than Cordura. It is the workhorse fabric for promotional bags, covers, cases and light-duty soft goods.

PU coating is lighter, more flexible and free of plasticizers. PVC coating is thicker and more water resistant but heavier, stiffer in the cold, and may contain phthalates restricted under California Prop 65 and EU REACH. Specify PU or phthalate-free PVC for consumer products.
Coated 600D is water resistant. Stitched seams leak unless taped or sealed, so a finished product is water resistant, not waterproof, unless it is designed with welded or taped seams.
At the same denier, nylon is stronger and more abrasion resistant but fades in UV and absorbs more water. Polyester is cheaper, holds color outdoors and dries faster. Most promotional and light-duty bags use polyester.
