When does SSG fit better?
Tooled production, steady volume, and a program someone has to run.
1. The part needs a die, a mold or a spring coiler
Deep draw, powdered metal, springs and fourslide, forging, rubber extrusion and soft goods are core SSG lines. They are not listed on Xometry's capabilities page.
2. Volume is steady and piece price matters
At 25,000 parts a year and up, a few cents a part is the whole game. Several principals quoting the same RFQ, and a rep negotiating, is how you find them.
3. You want to know and keep the plant
With SSG you know which principal makes the part, can visit it, and deal with the same plant release after release.
4. The program needs someone on it
Tooling kickoffs, first article, PPAP, engineering changes and corrective actions run through your rep for the life of the part.

Questions about Xometry and SSG
Is SSG MFG a Xometry competitor?
Partly. Both take a custom part from drawing to delivered parts, but the models differ. Xometry is a marketplace that prices online and assigns a partner shop. SSG is a manufacturers' rep firm: one RFQ to several principals it represents, with a rep negotiating and managing the program. Many buyers use both, for different parts.
Does SSG give instant quotes like Xometry?
Not firm ones. The SSG builder gives an instant budgetary estimate with DFM feedback, and the API and MCP server return the same estimate. The firm price comes from principals after they review the drawing. For tooled parts that review is where the real number comes from.
Which is better for springs, deep drawn cans or powdered metal gears?
SSG. Springs and fourslide, deep drawn stampings and powdered metal are core SSG lines, represented for more than 25 years. None of the three is listed on Xometry's capabilities page as of September 2026.
Which is better for a one-off machined bracket?
Usually Xometry or another instant-quote service. A single CNC part with no tooling is exactly what instant quoting prices well, and you can order in minutes. SSG's builder will estimate it, but an RFQ cycle adds nothing for a one-off.
Who pays the rep at SSG?
The principal. Manufacturers' reps are paid commission by the manufacturers they represent, on orders that ship. The buyer pays the principal's quoted price and nothing to the rep.
