IGES

IGES is the Initial Graphics Exchange Specification, an older neutral CAD file format for exchanging 3D surfaces and curves between systems. It still opens in almost every CAD package, but it often loses solid-body data, so STEP is the better choice for quoting and tooling.

STL

STL is a 3D file format that describes a part surface as a mesh of triangles. It is the standard input for 3D printing, but it approximates curves and carries no exact geometry, so it cannot support accurate machining or tooling quotes. Send STEP for those.

2D drawing

A 2D drawing is a dimensioned engineering drawing, usually a PDF, that defines a part's tolerances, datums, material, finish, and inspection requirements. The 3D model shows shape; the drawing controls what gets measured and accepted. Most quality agreements make the drawing the governing document when the two disagree.

RFQ

An RFQ is a request for quotation, the package a buyer sends suppliers to get prices for a specific part. A complete RFQ includes a 3D model, 2D drawing, material, finish, annual volume, release quantities, and required certifications. Missing details lead to padded or non-comparable quotes.
